Kolkata, West Bengal: West Bengal joined the nationwide celebrations for the 79th Independence Day with patriotic fervor and cultural events. The main official ceremony was held in Kolkata, where the Governor presided over the flag-hoisting and parade. A unique initiative for this year’s celebration in West Bengal is the opening of the historic Raj Bhavan to the public. As part of the festivities, citizens have the rare opportunity to visit the official residence of the state Governor and explore its gardens, colonial architecture, and grand halls for three days, from August 16 to 18, 2025. This move is aimed at fostering a greater connection between the public and historical landmarks.
Srinagar, Jammu & Kashmir: In Jammu & Kashmir, a multi-tier security blanket was put in place to ensure peaceful and successful Independence Day celebrations. According to reports from Rising Kashmir and Kashmir Observer, security forces intensified patrolling and surveillance from the Line of Control (LoC) to major urban centers. The main official event in Kashmir was held at Bakshi Stadium in Srinagar, while the central function in Jammu took place at Maulana Azad Stadium. Full dress rehearsals, involving police, paramilitary forces, and school students, were conducted across the region in the days leading up to the celebration. The hoisting of the national flag at Lal Chowk was a highlight, symbolizing the region’s integration and progress. The day’s events were a testament to the efforts of both the administration and security forces to maintain peace and order.
Bhubaneswar, Odisha: Odisha celebrated Independence Day with its Chief Minister, Mohan Majhi, hoisting the national flag. A particularly poignant and creative tribute was made by internationally acclaimed sand artist Sudarsan Pattnaik on Puri beach. Using six tonnes of sand, Pattnaik created a large-scale sculpture honoring the Indian Armed Forces and depicting “Operation Sindoor,” which Prime Minister Modi highlighted in his address. This artwork, which was widely reported by Odisha TV, was a symbolic representation of the nation’s gratitude and a salute to the soldiers who safeguard its freedom.
Mumbai, Maharashtra: Maharashtra marked its 79th Independence Day with a strong display of patriotism. To commemorate the day, the Ministry of Defence organized band performances by the Armed Forces, Central Armed Police Forces, and NCC across seven iconic locations in the state, including the Gateway of India in Mumbai and Shaniwarwada in Pune. As reported by PIB Mumbai, these performances were intended to honor freedom fighters, foster patriotism, and celebrate the nation’s achievements. Furthermore, a small city in Maharashtra, Nanded, played a significant role in the national celebrations by being one of the few official centers to manufacture the national flag according to strict government standards.
Patna, Bihar: In Bihar, the patriotic spirit was palpable with “Tiranga Yatras” and rallies organized across the state. The Deputy Chief Minister led a “Tiranga Padyatra” in Patna, while the Sashastra Seema Bal (SSB) organized a “Tiranga bike rally.” A heartwarming highlight of the celebrations was the invitation extended to ten rescued and rehabilitated bonded workers from Bihar to be special guests at the main ceremony at the Red Fort in New Delhi. This gesture, reported by the Times of India, celebrated their journey from forced labor to freedom and recognized them as symbols of a new, inclusive India.
