Mizoram Celebrates Historic Rail Link; CM Praises Project as a ‘Boon’ for the State.

In a momentous development, the state of Mizoram is set to be connected to India’s national railway network for the first time in history with the completion of the 51-kilometer Bairabi-Sairang rail line. The project, which has been under construction for over a decade, is being hailed as a transformative step for the state’s development.

The news has been met with widespread political support and celebration in Mizoram. Chief Minister Lalduhoma of the Zoram People’s Movement (ZPM) has been particularly vocal in his appreciation for the project. Speaking to reporters, the Chief Minister called the new railway line a “boon” for the people of Mizoram and highlighted its potential to spur economic growth and reduce transportation costs.

“This project is a dream come true for the people of Mizoram,” said Chief Minister Lalduhoma. “It will not only reduce travel time and make it easier for our students and local people to travel to other parts of the country, but it will also lower the prices of essential goods, which are currently very high due to the lack of proper connectivity.”
The Chief Minister has also been actively involved in the preparations for the inauguration of the line.

He has held meetings with officials from the Northeast Frontier Railway (NFR) and other government departments to ensure a smooth and successful event. The Prime Minister, Narendra Modi, is scheduled to inaugurate the railway line on September 13, 2025.

The Bairabi-Sairang project is a key component of the central government’s “Act East Policy,” which aims to boost connectivity and economic integration in the northeastern region. While the project has been met with a positive response from the state government, some local critics have raised concerns about the environmental impact of the line and the need for a final link to the state capital, Aizawl, as the Sairang station is located about 20 kilometers away. However, the overwhelming sentiment from political leaders in Mizoram is one of gratitude and optimism for the future.
