Kochi, Kerala – One year after its executive committee’s resignation following significant controversies and allegations, the Association of Malayalam Movie Artists (AMMA) is gearing up for a hotly contested election for its new governing body.
The race for the coveted presidential post has intensified, with six prominent personalities filing their nominations after superstar Mohanlal, the incumbent, announced he would not be seeking re-election. The candidates vying for the presidency are Jagadish, Shweta Menon, Raveendran, Devan, Jayan Cherthala, and Anoop Chandran.
In a minor setback, actor Joy Mathew’s nomination paper was rejected due to an issue with his name. This election marks a notable shift, with a larger number of younger actors and female members throwing their hats into the ring, indicating a potential desire for change within the organization.
The upcoming election is expected to be a crucial one for AMMA, as it seeks to restore its image and address past criticisms after a turbulent period. The active participation of various members suggests a vibrant and competitive democratic process within the actors’ collective.
