SULTHAN BATHERY – Professor M.N. Karassery stated that the findings of Adv. Thankachan in his book, “Malayala Bhasha Nilanilpum Purogathiyum” (Survival and Progress of the Malayalam Language), are highly relevant and a true reflection of the reality that Malayalam, the mother tongue of Kerala, is facing significant linguistic encroachment. He emphasized that the language can only be preserved by effectively resisting these trends.
Professor Karassery made these remarks during his keynote speech at the launch of two books by Adv. Thankachan: “Malayala Bhasha Nilanilpum Purogathiyum” and “Purosthirachintha Aashayavum Prayogavum” (Progressive Thought, Idea and Practice), held at the Sulthan Bathery town hall. He also noted that Malayalis who ignore their mother tongue exhibit a hierarchical mindset towards language.
Karassery expressed his disappointment that even bright students are unable to properly write or read Malayalam, adding that the book “Malayala Bhasha Nilanilpum Purogathiyum” serves as a crucial guide for protecting the mother tongue from destructive linguistic encroachments, as it deserves to be respected like a mother.
I.C. Balakrishnan, the MLA of Sulthan Bathery, who inaugurated the event, observed that Adv. Thankachan’s studies and research on topics like proper environmental protection and sustainable development are capable of creating significant social change. He also praised Adv. Thankachan’s commendable work in addressing issues such as the menace of wild animals.
The event honored Abdul Kalam Azad of Kozhikode and Dr. Mini Uthup of Noolpuzha. The program was presided over by Abdul Kalam Azad, with speeches delivered by Junaid Kaipani, Professor Tara Philip, Father Siju Kuriakose, K.J. Devasya, C.P. Ashraf, Thomas Vadakkanad, Adv.
