Quetta / Balochistan — A separatist insurgent group, the Baloch Liberation Army (BLA), claimed a major offensive across Pakistan’s southwestern Balochistan province under the name Operation Herof. The group says it carried out coordinated attacks on Pakistani military and security targets in numerous districts, resulting in heavy clashes that have escalated tensions across the region.
Group Claims Heavy Losses for Pakistani Forces
In a statement released on Saturday, the BLA said that during the second phase of Operation Herof, its fighters struck at least 48 locations across 14 towns and cities in Balochistan, including Quetta, Mastung, Kalat, Turbat, Gwadar, Panjgur, Pasni, Noshki and others. According to the BLA:
- 84 Pakistani security personnel — including army, police and other state forces — were killed in the operations.
- 18 personnel were taken captive.
- BLA fighters seized and destroyed government properties including security posts, offices, and set fire to over 23 vehicles.
- The group also claimed to have consolidated positions in several key locations.
The BLA statement said its fighters had “paralysed routine operations” of Pakistan’s military and administrative structures and forced security forces into defensive positions.
A spokesperson for the group, Jeeyand Baloch, described the offensive as a “declaration of decisive resistance against the occupying state and all its military and administrative structures.”
Context: Ongoing Insurgency and Previous Operations
The BLA is a separatist armed organisation involved in the long-running insurgency in Balochistan, rooted in ethnic tensions and demands for greater autonomy. It opposes Pakistani state control in the province. Previous BLA offensives have included coordinated attacks across multiple districts, as well as ambushes on military convoys and security infrastructure.
In earlier years, under the same Operation Herof banner, the group claimed multiple strikes across more than 50 locations targeting military and security posts, checkpoints and infrastructure as part of its insurgent campaign.
Pakistan Military and Government Response
As of this writing, official Pakistani military statements regarding Operation Herof’s latest claims were not available in public sources. Government and security officials historically dispute insurgent claims, and detailed, independently verified casualty figures for military personnel are yet to be confirmed by independent media. Independent verification is essential in conflicts like these, where both militant groups and state agencies release competing figures.
Pakistan’s authorities generally describe such attacks as acts of terrorism and have launched counter-insurgency operations, including raids on militant hideouts that have resulted in casualties among insurgents. In one such government-reported operation earlier, Pakistani security forces killed dozens of militants in raids inside Balochistan.

Note on Verification
At this time, there is no independent international confirmation of the specific casualty figures or territorial gains claimed by the BLA. Insurgent groups often release their own figures, which may differ from official government or independent media reports. This report attributes these numbers and statements specifically to the BLA’s claims and local media reporting.
