Hindu Businessman Hacked to Death in Bangladesh; Jailed Hindu Political Leader Dies Days Earlier.

Dhaka/Mymensingh: A 62-year-old Hindu rice trader was brutally killed by unidentified attackers in Bangladesh’s Mymensingh district, in an incident that has heightened concerns about law and order and minority safety in the country.

Trader Murdered Inside Shop

The victim, Susen Chandra Sarkar, owned “Bhai Bhai Enterprise” and lived in Southkanda village. Police said the attackers struck around 11 pm, hacking him with a sharp weapon inside his shop before shutting the shutters and fleeing.

Family members later found him covered in blood and rushed him to Mymensingh Medical College Hospital, where doctors declared him dead.

According to his son, the assailants also looted several hundred thousand taka from the store after the killing.

Authorities have begun legal proceedings, and the body was sent for a post-mortem examination.

Calls for International Attention

Reports noted that global advocacy groups have urged immediate international action to ensure the safety of Hindus in Bangladesh, alleging a continuing pattern of violence, intimidation, and forced displacement.

Hindu Political Figure Dies in Jail

In a separate development, veteran Awami League leader and prominent Hindu politician Ramesh Chandra Sen died while in custody at Dinajpur District Jail after falling ill.

His death has sparked concern over detainee treatment and prompted questions about healthcare and prison conditions, with authorities and rights groups expected to examine the circumstances.

Growing Concern

The two incidents—coming close together—have intensified debate over minority security, custodial safety, and political accountability in Bangladesh as the country navigates a sensitive political environment.
