Manipur Violence: Nearly 50 Houses Torched in Fresh Naga–Kuki Clashes.

Imphal: Fresh ethnic violence has erupted in Manipur’s Ukhrul district, where armed miscreants allegedly set fire to nearly 50 houses and exchanged heavy gunfire, intensifying tensions between the Tangkhul Naga and Kuki communities.

What Happened

The violence broke out in the Litan area following tensions linked to the alleged assault of a Tangkhul Naga community member. Armed groups reportedly torched homes and opened fire, leaving the situation highly volatile.

Reports indicate the clashes have continued for several days, with both sides resorting to arson and firing, deepening the region’s long-standing ethnic conflict rooted in issues of identity, land, and political representation.

Internet Suspended, Security Tightened

Authorities suspended mobile and broadband internet services in Ukhrul, Kamjong, and Kangpokpi districts for five days to curb rumours and prevent further escalation.

Additional security personnel, including central forces, have been deployed in sensitive areas as officials attempt to restore order.

Residents Flee, Area on Edge

Many residents fled their homes amid the firing and arson, while prohibitory orders and curbs were imposed in affected zones.
No deaths have been reported so far, though the mountainous region remains tense with fears of retaliation.
