A group of Indian tourists has been caught in an alleged theft incident at a luxury resort in Bali, Indonesia, triggering widespread reactions on social media after a video of the episode went viral.
The incident reportedly took place in Ubud, a popular tourist destination, at the upscale Ashwara Resort. According to reports, four Indian tourists had checked into the resort on April 16, booking two rooms for a three-day, two-night stay.
Suspicion arose on April 19 when the group attempted to check out. Resort staff, noticing discrepancies and missing items from the rooms occupied by the tourists, decided to inspect their luggage before allowing them to leave.
The inspection, carried out in an open area near the reception and in the presence of the tourists, revealed several items allegedly taken from the resort. These included bath towels, pool towels, a hair dryer, kimono-style robes, a doormat, a television remote box, as well as utensils and spoons. The recovered items were laid out on the ground as part of the verification process, visuals of which have since circulated widely online.
Following the discovery, resort staff informed the management. However, reports indicate that the management chose not to initiate legal proceedings. Instead, the matter was resolved through mutual discussion between the parties involved, with local authorities reportedly aware of the development.
The viral video has triggered strong reactions on social media, with many users expressing concern that such incidents could contribute to negative perceptions of Indian tourists abroad, particularly in Southeast Asian destinations.
The episode underscores the importance of responsible conduct while traveling overseas, as individual actions can have broader implications for a country’s image on the global stage.
