LUCKNOW: Samajwadi Party (SP) leader Dimple Yadav has drawn sharp criticism from Muslim clerics and organizations after she reportedly entered a mosque without a head covering to attend a political meeting. The incident has sparked outrage, with the National President of All India Muslim Jamaat, Maulana Mufti Shahabuddin Razvi Bareilvi, vehemently condemning her actions and demanding an apology.
According to reports, Yadav’s presence inside the mosque without a burqa or dupatta (headscarf) has particularly incensed Islamic hardliners, who view it as a violation of religious sanctity and disrespect towards Muslim sentiments.
Maulana Razvi, addressing the controversy, stated, “Dimple Yadav should have been mindful of her attire and the sanctity of the mosque. Entering the mosque without a dupatta has insulted the religious sentiments of Muslims.”
He further emphasized that a mosque is a sacred place for worship, not for political gatherings. The cleric demanded that both Dimple Yadav and the Samajwadi Party leadership issue an unconditional apology for the perceived desecration of the holy site and the hurt caused to the Muslim community.
The incident has ignited a debate on the intersection of politics and religious spaces, with various religious and political commentators weighing in on the appropriateness of such actions. While the Samajwadi Party has yet to issue an official statement on the matter, the controversy highlights the sensitivities surrounding religious practices and public conduct in India.
The All India Muslim Jamaat and other concerned groups are reportedly considering further steps if an apology is not forthcoming.
